Rules and Regulations

1. Members of the congregation in good standing are entitled to purchase burial plots. Purchase of such plots shall take place in regular rows and in rotation. If, however, a member of the family wishes to reserve a special plot beside the deceased one, he/she may request that privilege.

2. *Payment for a single plot is $600 for members. Payment for a child’s plot is $200. In cases of nonmembers, where members of their family are buried in the cemetery, they may purchase a single plot at the price of $1,000 and a child’s plot at the price of $400. “Members of their family” are defined as parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts.

3. No additional plots will be sold in front of existing front row, or any new row started near the East.

4. Only the original purchaser of the plot is granted the right to use said plot for burial purposes for the internment of himself/herself, his/her family, his/her relations or descendants and such other persons as in his/her lifetime, he/she shall have procured the permission of the Cemetery Association to bury therein. Such burial right shall not be transferable by either voluntary or involuntary conveyance, or by descent, to any other person or persons without the express consent of the Cemetery Association. *Prices may change at some future time after full review by Cemetery Association.

5. Plot owners shall not allow internments to be made on their plots for remuneration. All internments in the plots shall be restricted to the members of the family and relations of the original plot owner, except if special permission to the contrary is obtained from the Cemetery Association.

6. The original purchaser shall, at the time of purchase, designate who shall be interred upon said plot and a record be kept by the Cemetery Association. If said purchaser shall desire to change this designation, in his or her lifetime, in compliance with Rule #5, it must be done with permission of the Cemetery Association and so recorded. However, if any person, so designated, does not use the right and is buried elsewhere, the plot shall become the property of the Cemetery Association.

7. Payment for all graves is cash and must be arranged prior to the burial or handled through the Funeral Director at the time of burial.

8. All plot owners are prohibited from selling or transferring their plots.

9. A cremation urn must be interred on an unused plot. A second cremation urn may be interred on the same plot, but, only one marker (monument, headstone or ledger) is permitted. A second cremation urn may be interred at an additional charge of $250 on a plot.

10. A grave marker (marker, monument, or ledger) must be installed within one year of interment.

11. No trees or shrubbery will be permitted to be planted on the cemetery at any time by anyone. No foot stone or railings will be allowed to be erected. All headstones must be set in line upon permanent concrete foundations.

12. Size of grave:  Single adult - 4 feet by 8 feet  Single child - 2 feet by 4 feet This does not include the space for a monument or headstone.

13. The foundation for a monument shall have the same length and width as the superstructure, shall be 4 feet deep and 4 inches below ground level. The size of monuments for two plots is to be 3 1/2 feet to 5 feet long and 14 inches wide. For one plot monument, the length is not to exceed 4 feet in length and 14 inches wide.

14. No person is permitted to perform any work on the cemetery premises without first gaining permission form the Cemetery Association.

15. Grave markers (monuments, headstones, or ledgers) are placed at the risk and maintenance of plot owners.

16. Burial Vaults are mandatory for burials at St. John’s cemetery with the exception of cremated remains in an urn.
