This past weekend wewelcomed Sr. Josephine Jemiseye of the Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel:
The Sisters of St. Michael the Archangel are an active female Religious Congregation, founded in 1986 in Nigeria. The Sisters provide direct care to the poor and the sick; they provide a place of haven for the abandoned and elderly in need. Their healing comes through spiritual and physical care with a loving sense of home and family. They provide shelter and accommodations including food, supplies, and financial assistance for orphans. The Sisters care for the sick and infirm as Jesus did in towns and villages through mobile clinics, they also offer free/low cost health care services for the poor. They provide education for the less privileged children in elementary and high schools and also assist young women in vocational school. In addition, the Sisters work to bring the gospel of Christ to all especially in remote areas by involving in pastoral work in different parishes in more than 12 dioceses in Nigeria. This includes teaching Catechism to Catechumens, and helping to prepare catechists; they also serve as directors of Religious education in parishes and at the Diocesan level. They are also involved in organizing basic Christian communities among parishioners to strengthen their faith.

St. John the Evangelist
Catholic Church in Daylight, Indiana
A lot can happen in a century and a half, and many things can change: the pace and manner of life, the people, leadership, and families, even the national heritage and culture.
When the parish of St. John, Apostle and Evangelist, was founded in 1868, it was founded by a small but tightly knit group of German immigrant families. Through these intervening 150 years the parish has been a part of three dioceses and led by 10 bishops and over two dozen pastors. Not only this, but even the church building and its location have changed as well. Finally, this last decade has brought a demographic change as the once rural farming parish has found itself a blooming and growing meeting place of over 600 families as the Evansville suburbs have moved northward.
Despite all of these changes, one thing has remained the same: our precious Catholic Faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ. The Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ our Savior has been offered without pause on the altar for the salvation of souls. Through that limitless grace, Christ has built up His Mystical Body in the souls that have formed the face and the backbone of this great parish.
I am so blessed to have been called to be your pastor, and to be part of this family in Christ. Laudetur Iesus Christus!!
